Why

Three years ago this month, I was sitting on the sofa building the very first version of this website. This involved a lot of thinking…not just because I’d never built a website before, but also because I had to work out exactly what I wanted you to see and feel when you landed here. What colours and typefaces should I use? Actually not too difficult a question in the grand scheme of things. What did I want you to know about me and my why? Still working on this three years down the line (I definitely don’t like being in the spotlight). How could I explain what Paper-Roses is all about…something short and sweet? At this point, please imagine me with a pencil twizzled in my hair and my tongue stuck out of the corner of my mouth in concentration - hopefully you get the picture.

A couple of weeks and somewhere along the lines of twenty to thirty scribbled attempts later, I finally decided on the tagline SEND YOUR LOVE | SHARE YOUR DREAMS. Why?

It’s all about the memories, connections, smiles, laughter…and sometimes tears (but that’s OK) that sending a card or thoughtful gift can bring. The way that you can share joy and hugs, love and laughter, dreams and aspirations, hopes and fears with somebody whether they’re next door or on the other side of the world. It’s truly powerful.

Now

And right now, with all of the uncertainty in the world, it’s abundantly clear that connection, positive thoughts and messages are needed more than ever. This is especially true for people who are ill, lonely, anxious, or to be honest, just feeling a bit fed up with everything.

Will you be sending a short note, a hug and a smile to someone? To get the ball rolling, I’ll be sending note cards to loved ones on behalf of 12 lucky winners. Your messages, written (in my very best handwriting) and posted by me to anywhere in the world that’s on Hong Kong Post’s radar.
